A good starting point would be the 19th century printed directories
for Edinburgh.  Copies will almost certainly be held in the main
public library in Edinburgh.  You can probably find their contact
details via an internet search or you could simply place a query on
'Ask a Librarian' <URL:http://www.ask-a-librarian.org.uk/>
