Subject: Professional Accreditation and the Conservation Register
Professional accreditation and the Conservation Register: A promotional tour 2003-04 In recognition of the fact that the Professional Accreditation of Conservator-Restorers (PACR) scheme and the Conservation Register complement each other (Accreditation is used by the Conservation Register in its Criteria for Inclusion) a promotional tour has been organised to raise awareness of the benefits of both schemes. The event is free and is aimed at conservators from both the public and private sectors across the three domains of museums, libraries and archives, as well as those who are responsible for managing collections and commissioning conservation work who would like to find out more about both the Conservation Register and the PACR scheme. The programme includes: * short presentations on what's involved in PACR accreditation and the Conservation Register * an accredited conservator's perspective on PACR * a practice on the Register (or an organisation that has used the Register) offering their point of view * an update on progress towards the establishment, in 2004, of a new unified professional body that will provide a focus for conservation and collection care activity across the whole of the UK. * an optional tour to view the conservation studio of the hosting venue such as the Textile Conservation Centre and the Conservation Centre in Liverpool The workshops will be presented in the English regions, Scotland, Wales and Ireland, starting on October 30, 2003 in Exeter. They are being supported by Resource, the Regional Agencies, Historic Scotland, the National Museum and Gallery of Wales and Conservation by Design.
