Call for Posters
Granite and Marble Conference

"Building with Stone: Granite and Marble for Architectural Exteriors
and Monuments", an intensive 2-day conference/training program which
will be held in Cambridge, Massachusetts, on Saturday,May 8--Sunday,
May 9, 2004, will explore the use, performance, and care of granite
and marble in existing and new buildings, monuments, sculpture,
tombstones, and other architectural structures.

The conference, sponsored by Technology and Conservation, Ivan
Myjer/Building Monument and Conservation, the MIT Department of
Architecture, and the Boston Society of Architects/AIA's Historic
Resources Committee, will cover:

    quarrying
    selection and specifying of stone
    evaluation
    fabrication and detailing
    repair and maintenance

The information being presented will be of particular value to:

    architects
    engineers
    building restoration specialists
    building maintenance supervisors
    architectural conservators
    objects/sculpture conservators
    construction specifiers
    contractors
    landscape architects
    campus planners
    operations/facilities managers and administrators of libraries,
        museums, and other cultural institutions; religious
        properties; educational and commercial complexes; and
        cemeteries
    real estate developers
    federal, state, and local government officials responsible for
        the care, rehab, and/or continued viability of
        buildings/structures and of public art

    manufacturers/suppliers or relevant components/systems and
    services

Poster presentations on a project or research involving granite or
marble performance, detailing, use, care, or repair are welcomed.

A poster presentation is one 30" x 40" board or two 20" x 30" boards
showing project and/or research information relevant to the
conference subject matter--exteriors of traditional/historic and/or
contemporary buildings and other architectural structures,
monuments, sculpture, and tombstones. An area will be set aside
during the conference for the display of posters.

Poster proposals should be submitted by January 15, 2004 to:
