Storing tents

A collection of 18th and 19th century military tents are folded for
storage (huge, heavy packs of approximately 100 x 80 x 40 cm and 150
x 150 x 50 cm). The tents are made from shaped woven and partially
stain painted textile pieces, sewn together with attached leather
pieces and some ropes. At the moment there is no visible damage but
we wonder if this situation could/should be improved and if other
solutions could be considered. Has anybody experience with stain
painted military tents?
