Subject: Iraq Cultural Heritage Act
H.R. 2009, the Iraq Cultural Heritage Act, is now being debated in the U.S. Congress. The bill, if passed, would prohibit the importation of any improperly documented or undocumented archaeological or cultural material removed from Iraq since 1990. SAFE (Saving Antiquities for Everyone), a coalition of media, academic, and museum professionals working together to increase public awareness of the importance of preserving the cultural heritage, is spearheading the drive to gain public support for this legislation. Posters, bumper stickers, and further information can be downloaded from the SAFE web site <URL:http://www.safenow.net>. *** Conservation DistList Instance 17:23 Distributed: Friday, August 22, 2003 Message Id: cdl-17-23-001 ***Received on Friday, 22 August, 2003
