Internships in Structural Paintings
Scottish Conservation Bureau 2003/5
Annual Stipend of UKP13,500

Historic Scotland, through the Scottish Conservation Bureau, invites
applications for 3 internships working on structural paintings as
part of the Mansfield Traquair Trust's restoration of the Phoebe
Anna Traquair murals in the Mansfield Traquair Centre (MTC) in
Edinburgh.

Internship A will last for 24 months starting Autumn 2003,
Internships B&C for 14-16 months starting early Spring 2004. Further
information on the project may be viewed at
<URL:http://www.mansfieldtraquair.org.uk>.

The MTC Interns programme complements and extends Historic
Scotland's existing schemes, aiming to increase the fund of
conservation expertise in Scotland in areas of under-represented
skills. The programme provides recent conservation graduates with
extensive practical project-based work supervised by leading
conservators, supplemented by an element of broader experience and
training in the wider conservation field.

The internships will be supervised by Senior Conservator Fiona
Allardyce and Conservator Ailsa Murray. The interns will be
involved in all aspects of this major project: planning, management,
preventive conservation, research and analysis as well as treatment
of the murals themselves.

Applicants must recently have completed a relevant recognised
conservation training course and preferably have experience in
conservation of structural paintings and site work. While we
welcome applicants from overseas, please note that candidates should
be prepared to demonstrate a firm commitment to continuing work in
Scotland after the placement period.

Apply by letter to the address below, and enclosing a Curriculum
Vitae with the names and addresses of two referees familiar with the
applicant's conservation career; applicants must also provide a
separate 200-300 word statement of their interest in an Historic
Scotland internship.
