The Faculty of Design wishes to appoint a member of staff to join
its teaching team on the above course with a view to possible
assuming course leadership responsibilities. Candidates should have
suitable experience and contacts within the furniture
conservation/restoration commercial sector and be knowledgeable with
a range of techniques and processes involved in the treatment of
furniture. The course has a strong practical bias and candidates
should have a proven record of both theoretical and practical work
together with an understanding of the issues involved with
conservation.

Objects/archaeological conservator
National Museum of Iceland
(One year temporary position)

The National Museum of Iceland is in the process of expanding and
strengthening it's conservation department. Therefore the National
Museum is now seeking applicants for a one year position as an
objects/archaeological conservator beginning at the start of
September or by agreement. Minimum qualifications are the completion
of a certified 3-year program in conservation of archaeological and
cultural historical material.

The conservation department of the National Museum takes care of
conservation assignments within its own collections, as well as
servicing cultural history museums and archaeological institutions
around the country. The conservation department and the museum
collections are placed in Kopavogur, 5 km south of Reykjavik. The
permanent exhibition of the National Museum in Reykjavik has been
closed due to extensive renovation and new design of the exhibition
since autumn 1998. The National Museum will open again in April
2004.

The primarily role of the successful applicant will be
archaeological conservation, preparation of cultural history objects
in connection with the opening of the new exhibition, as well as
preventive conservation work.
