Italian Approaches to the Structural Conservation of Paintings: Past, Present and Future (See Conservation DistList Instance: 16:57 Wednesday, April 2, 2003 for announcement) Final plans for the workshop "Italian Approaches to the Structural Conservation of Paintings: Past, Present and Future," September 25-28, 2003 have been developed, to include time for participants to practice hands on skills, demonstrated by the Italian course guide Matteo Doria Rossi. Work stations will be set up throughout the lab for conservators to undertake various techniques. Opportunities will also exist for group problem solving, in a think tank approach, drawing upon the past experience and knowledge of all. Attendees are asked to bring slides of treatment problems, a respirator and their own favorite small hand tools for manipulating chards, tears, tent cleavage, blisters, etc. Paintings conservators, there are still openings in the 4 day workshop,Hosted by West Lake Conservators, it will be held at our lab in Central New York State, Thursday through Sunday. This cultural exchange of techniques, materials and tools, by Italian conservator Matteo Rossi Doria, from Rome, will demonstrate developments of Italian solutions and the evolution of new approaches between traditional and alternative modern methods. Demonstrations will be followed by hands on practice by participants. Shared lakeside accommodation in an Adirondack-style camp setting ensures ample time for networking and a reasonable budget.
