The National Archives is the UK's largest source of archive research
material of Government and legal records from Domesday Book to
modern Cabinet papers. The National Archive brings together The
Public Record Office and The Historical Manuscripts Commission in an
exciting new organisation. As part of an on-going programme of
development within the Preservation department, The National
Archives is seeking to recruit a Head of Archive Research at Kew.
The successful candidate, to this newly formed position, will be
charged with formulating and implementing a broad programme of
practically based preservation/conservation research projects within
the overall strategic development of the National Archives and the
Preservation department in particular. The post holder will work
directly with the Head of Preservation to encourage the development
of new techniques and innovative thinking.  The National Archives is
a key stakeholder in the development of regional and national
preservation planning therefore the post holder will be charged with
developing practically based research projects to underpin the work
of preservation in all sectors of the archives community.

Specific responsibilities will include, developing a long term
preservation research strategy for The National Archives, fostering
research projects with other major national and international
organizations and representing the National Archives at seminars
/conferences.

To fill this role you will need to  have approximately 10 years
experience in a relevant preservation context with a proven track
record of research combined with excellent management skills and the
ability to work under pressure.
