Beyond Paper: Combination of Materials in Art Technology and
    Conservation
(Mehr als Papier: Materialkombinationen in Kunsttechnologie und
    Restaurierung)

Paper, Archives and Book Specialty Group (Fachgruppe Grafik, Archiv-
und Bibliotheksgut) of the Verband der Restauratoren e.V. (VDR) with
kind support of the Academy of Fine Arts, Dresden

This symposium addresses conservation-restoration issues in which
different technical and material areas overlap thus requiring
collaboration between paper conservation and other conservation
disciplines. In addition to lectures and poster presentations guided
tours and excursions are intended.

Apart from their classical fields of activities conservators for
paper, archives and books are frequently confronted by a broad
spectrum of tasks, examples of which include paper on wood or
textiles, combination of materials in books, wax seals enclosed in
wood or metal, pastels on canvas, paintings on paperboard, leather
wallpapers as well as preparatory drawings and transfer techniques.

Conservators in other fields likewise have to deal with similar
crossovers: Paper on furniture, paper-mache collages on medieval
embroideries or many objects in contemporary art necessitate an
interdisciplinary dialogue which will be emphasised by this
conference.

Therefore we cordially ask you to contribute with experiences or
specialised knowledge to our symposium. Especially welcome are
smaller workshop reports or student work.

The conference languages are German and English. Simultaneous
translation will not be provided. Presentations will be limited to
20 minutes. Submissions should include the speaker's name, address,
email address, telephone and fax numbers, a short one-paragraph
biographical note, the title of the presentation or poster, and an
abstract of no more than 250 words.
