SOLINET, Inc., the Southeastern Library Network, is pleased to announce the following preservation workshop Please excuse cross-posting): Commercial Library Binding University of Florida, Gainesville, FL Thursday, August 21, 2003 9am-4 pm This workshop provides the tools needed to make appropriate binding decisions that balance preservation goals and financial realities. Modules include: book structure and modern book manufacturing methods, an overview of bindery operations, discussion on contracts and vendor relations, and decision making. Included is a showing of Library Binding: A Shared Responsibility, A Collaborative Effort (a 1989 video developed by a team of librarians and binders), an exhibit of binding materials and methods, and a hands-on decision-making exercise. This workshop is designed for heads of technical services, serials, and/or binding departments, and bindery clerks in the bindery prep unit. Cost is $105 SOLINET members ($95 early bird, $130 late registration); $145 Non-SOLINET members ($135 early bird, $165 late registration). Any institution within Florida qualifies for the member rate.
