I found that this problem is often caused by the upper of the two
small ball bearings becoming stuck to the aperture of the cylinder.
In our case this seemed to result from the illicit rinsing of
adhesive laden brushes in the dispenser! If the pump is
disassembled, the ball bearing can usually be freed with a cocktail
stick from below. After reassembly, flushing through with acetone a
few times will normally do the trick.
