Course of Specialisation on Conservative restoration of the Japanese
Sword: Introduction to the exploitation of the techniques for the
maintenance and restauration

The Course, promoted and patronized by the Romualdo Del Bianco
Foundation of Florence, is organized in collaboration with two
important Florentine Institutions, the Stibbert Museum and the
Centre of Studies and Researches of the University of Tokyo in
Florence.

The Course, articulated in three Modules, of 15 days each, directed
to the Knowledge, Diagnostic and Practice of the Art, will be held
in Florence next January 2004. The lessons will be held by a great
professional of the art, Marco Quadri, fellow since the 1987 of the
Master Kenji Mishina, head Instructor in the Nagayama Kenshujo and
entrusted by the Japanese Government to the restauration of Japanese
blades designated with the qualification of" Kokuho" (National
Treasure) and" Juyo Bunkazai (Important Cultural Ownership); the
Master Mishina will attend during the carrying out of the Course a
session of deepening lessons.

A certificate of frequency will be released to the attainment of the
first two modules, while at the end of the third one, completing the
whole cycle, a final certificate will be conferred delivered by the
holder of the course and by the representatives of the involved
Institutions, testifying the frequency to the Course and the
attainment of a basic ability for starting conservative restoration.
At the end of the cycle of the modules, to all the participants will
be offered (two to the time) and with a program of compatible
frequency, the possibility to carry out an experience of research of
the a month-long duration in the Stibbert Museum, with programs of
"Control and editing of a systematic list on the conservative
conditions of select samples of the collection of the Japanese
swords, of their fittings and of their fittings." The cost for each
Module is of 1990,00 Euro taxes excluded.
