If it's white dust, it could be left over from construction
activities. If so, you may need to have your ducts cleaned. If it's
fine dark grit or soot, it could be getting pulled in from outdoors
via the HVAC make-up air. Inspect the source of the make-up air
and/or install a finer filter on the air handler. Coarse grit and
fibrous residue are usually imported by people on their shoes and
clothing. Vigilant maintenance and low-tech remedies like floor-mats
at the doorway will do a world of good. Improperly cured concrete or
masonry might also cause a problem. What's the nature of your dust?
