Salary: $26,930 per year

Eligibility Requirements: Bachelor's degree in a relevant subject
area and demonstrated knowledge of current book and paper
conservation and protective enclosure fabrication techniques and two
years of relevant work experience in a conservation laboratory; or
an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Successfully demonstrated completion of formal training in
conservation related-fields, which may include book or paper
conservation techniques, and training in computer-related areas of
study. Successfully demonstrated knowledge of and skills in using
standard and advanced conservation equipment, tools, and materials
as supported by examples of treatment work. Treatment portfolio
required. Successfully demonstrated knowledge of the physical
characteristics of library materials. Successfully demonstrated
experience handling rare books and materials. Demonstrated ability
to follow detailed instructions, both oral and written. Successfully
demonstrated ability to work well independently and in team
situations. Successfully demonstrated personal computer skills
preferred. Experience in a research library or similar institution
preferred.

General Description: Under the general supervision of the Associate
Head of the Goldsmith Conservation Laboratory, performs a variety of
intermediate level conservation treatment activities including
examination and documentation procedures for a wide range of library
materials from general and special collections. Treatment procedures
may include basic testing, surface cleaning, structural repair of
paper and bound materials, humidification, aqueous and non-aqueous
and other chemical treatment operations, polyester film
encapsulation, binding, recasing, pamphlet binding, post-binding,
hinge removal, matting, and protective enclosure fabrication.
Assists in general laboratory support duties and equipment and tool
maintenance procedures of the conservation lab. Participates in
seminars and demonstrations as appropriate. Performs related duties
as required, including disaster response operations performed
outside of standard office hours.
