Georges Mathieu

I'm studying a painting by Georges Mathieu (1959) which has a ground
of diluted acrylic colour and his typical thick signs in black, as
well acrylic, but with some filling. However, the acrylic colour of
the signs is still soft and sticky.  Has anyone had the same
problem? Can anyone provide information on how to deal with it?
