A History of Decorated Bookbinding University Library, London July 21-25, 2003 Tutor: Mirjam Foot There are still a few places left on this five-day course on the history of bookbinding decoration. Pre-19th century binding structures will also be discussed. The course is aimed to provide conservators, archivists and librarians with an understanding of the major trends in binding and tool-design and to provide a knowledge of binding history, essential for anyone dealing with the handmade book. In addition there will be a field trip to the British Library (or a principal library). A list of recommended reading will be available prior to the course on application.
