Subject: Conference on image re-integration
The Image Re-integration Meeting 2nd Triennial Conservation Conference Northumbria University Organised by A.Jean E.Brown September 15-17, 2003 Aims and Objectives: The replacement of missing elements of an image, or decorative surface, is often referred to as image re-integration. The 2nd Triennial Conservation Conference at Northumbria University will be a cross disciplinary meeting to investigate the range of approaches taken by different conservation disciplines to image re-integration issues. Approaches and attitudes towards these procedures partly reflects the diversity of objects treated, but also results from the influence of a range of historic, cultural, aesthetic, practical, financial and ethical considerations as well as a consideration of the original or current function of the object. The selection of the most appropriate image re-integration techniques can often be problematic since this is often based on subjective decision-making skills rather than on an objective evaluation of diagnostic criteria. This has sometimes resulted in conflicting approaches to similar types of object or a complete rejection of any attempt to re-integrate the original elements of the artefact. In order to better understand the attitudes that have developed regarding re-integration issues the conference will present papers reflecting the approaches taken by different conservation disciplines. Each paper will describe the function of the object under consideration as well as the re-integration techniques used and the rationale used to guide the approach selected. The meeting will be held at Northumbria University, Newcastle upon Tyne from September 15-17, 2003 Registration Fee (see special introductory offer below): The cost for the three-day conference is UKP300.00 until May 30, 2003 and UKP340.00 after May 30, 2003.
