The State Library of Queensland is responsible for the preservation
of the State's documentary heritage collections. Its conservation
program is integral to ensuring the stability of these collections
and for their long-term access and preservation for future
generations.  The Millennium Library Project, being the
redevelopment of the existing State Library facility, will commence
in late 2003. This will be an exciting opportunity to maximise the
scope and effectiveness of the conservation program and offer
innovative library services both throughout the state and globally.
During the transitional phase of the redevelopment all library
services will be conducted from off-site facilities.

Location:  State Library of Queensland, Cultural Centre South Bank,
South Brisbane, Queensland.

Job Description: To supervise the conservation program by ensuring
that historical, rare or otherwise valuable material from the State
Library's collections is treated in the most timely, cost- effective
and appropriate manner; and ensures that all conservation treatments
satisfy the AICCM Code of Ethics and Guidance for Conservation
Practice. Assist Preservation Management with the development of
specifications for the design of the Millennium Library Project
ensuring effective preventative preservation measures are put in
place.

Selection Criteria: Relevant tertiary qualification in conservation
of cultural materials with a speciality in paper conservation, or
professional membership of the Australian Institute of Conservation
of Cultural Materials with a strong practical background in paper
conservation.
