Castle Coole is one of the finest Neo-classical houses in Ireland.
Built in the 1790's, the house was almost entirely re-decorated in
the Regency style by the second Earl of Belmore, using the best
possible designers and craftsmen. The house retains many of its
Regency textiles and trimmings, forming one of the most important
surviving collections. A major restoration and redecoration project
was carried out at Castle Coole in the 1980's including major
repairs to the stonework. The forthcoming project will effect the
interiors, the main elements being the rewiring of services and
repairs to ceiling plasterwork. The importance and delicacy of the
contents means that preventative conservation throughout the project
needs to be to the highest appropriate standard.

As Project Conservator you will assist with the preparation of
Castle Coole for the forthcoming Fire and Security Upgrade. Whilst
work is in progress, you will be responsible for the protection of
the historic fabric and contents to assist in the reinstatement of
contents at the end of the contract. You will also be responsible
for Housekeeping and Preventative Conservation, Contract Duties,
Fire, Security and Emergency procedures and Health and Safety. The
successful candidate will have a relevant qualification in
Conservation and at least two years experience with the ability to
prepare a work programme. Previous experience in working in historic
houses, such as re-servicing contracts would be an
advantage.Excellent communication skills, PC skills and the ability
to work on your own initiative yet be part of team is essential, as
is a full UK driving licence and access to a reliable vehicle.
