Centro Cultural E. Lesn Jimenes

The Centro Cultural Eduardo Lesn Jimenes, located in the city of
Santiago de los Caballeros, Dominican Republic, invites applications
for an eight-week summer internship in photographs conservation,
from June 17, 2003 to August 9, 2003. The photographic materials
collection consists of over 20,000 objects, related to the visual
arts and the ethnographic, historic, and archaeological culture of
the Dominican Republic.

The primary objective of this internship is the rehousing of the
collection into archival enclosures before they are moved into their
new cold storage facility. A secondary objective is to perform minor
treatments. The intern will work at the newly built museum, which
includes conservation lab and one of the first cold-storage
facilities of Latin America. The intern will learn about photographs
preservation and conservation, and cold storage procedures. In
addition, the project will provide the intern with the opportunity
to work with a noteworthy photographic collection, to participate in
all the exciting activities that are taking place at the institution
in preparation for its upcoming inauguration in October 2003, as
well as the unique experience to travel to the Dominican Republic.

Term of appointment is for 8 weeks with a flexible starting and end
date in summer, 2002.
