Altered paintings

Hello. A decade ago I did research on the provenance of Georgia
O'Keeffe's Cross With Red Heart, which had had its shape changed
from a rectangle to an arched-shape in the sixties. I had been
asked by a client to change it back; something I did not attempt, in
the end, for various reasons. I presented this material in a paper
to the AIC Paintings Specialty Group in Nashville in 1994. I have
been recently invited to give the paper at a conference on modernism
at NYU in May and I would be interested in other cases of altered
O'Keeffes (or other 20th Century works) in order to elaborate on
issues of artists' intent and the role which conservators and art
historians play in the interpretation of intent. Thank you,

Camilla VanVooren
