Head of Preservation Unit Preservation Manager / Book Conservator Position Auckland City Libraries Auckland City Libraries delivers a premier library service from its seventeen sites within Auckland City and has the largest and most diverse collection of paper documentary heritage resources in a public library in New Zealand. This is an innovative and newly-created position which reflects our strong commitment to long-term preservation policies and practices for the Library's heritage and general collections. The appointee will lead at team at the Preservation Unit based at Auckland Central City Library and will play a key role in strategic decision making and the implementation of policies, practices and procedures for the preservation of a wide range of collections which include medieval manuscripts, rare books, historic photographs, maps and resources in electronic format. Substantial experience as a qualified book conservator and at the preservation management level is required for this role. Proven leadership skills and enthusiasm for library services will be vital as well as an understanding of the issues and challenges with preservation and access in a rapidly changing information environment. There will be emphasis on developing regional and national collaborative partnerships with allied heritage organisations and in particular, with the National Preservation Office at the National Library of New Zealand/ Te Taro Tohu Taonga.
