Associate Conservator
The J. Paul Getty Museum

The Antiquities Conservation Dept at the J. Paul Getty Museum seeks
an Associate Conservator to facilitate planning of loan exhibitions
and assist in the management of all conservation aspects related to
loan exhibitions.  The department is responsible for the museum's
holding of over 50,000 ancient Greek and Roman works of art and
artifacts as well as for objects lent to the museum for an active
and exciting special exhibition program.  The incumbent will
conserve objects from the collection and participate in
international collaborative conservation; prepare documentation of
condition and conservation activities performed; monitor and
maintain proper environmental conditions for the collections: will
have direct involvement in the installation of the ancient
collection at the newly renovated Getty Villa and new Villa
conservation laboratories.  Will provide input into exhibition and
acquisition processes, assist in the supervision of junior
conservation staff, interns and contractors as well as have direct
involvement with the scientific staff of the Getty Conservation
Institute.

The Associate Conservator is expected to research and work toward
the development of improved understanding of the collections and
methodologies aimed at the long-term preservation of the
collections.   He or she is expected to remain current with research
and advances in the conservation field. The successful candidate
should be a graduate (MA or MSc level) of a conservation training
program (specializing in objects conservation) or have equivalent
experience. A minimum of 5-7 years experience in the conservation of
ancient material within a museum setting is required. He or she must
be able to work independently and be able to travel as required.
Excellent interpersonal skills and supervisory experience is
essential.  Excellent public presentation skills strongly preferred.
