Environmental Officer (Ref. 2003/020) National Museums and Galleries on Merseyside Salary UKP15,750-18,370 National Museums and Galleries on Merseyside (NMGM) <URL:http://www.nmgm.org.uk> is a unique organisation with responsibilities both as a major national museum group, and as a regional and local museum service for people in Liverpool and the North West. This established post will be based in the Conservation Science and Research Laboratory at the Conservation Centre, and will involve regular visits to all the display and storage venues in NMGM. You will be responsible for monitoring the environment at all NMGM's sites, and will liaise with conservators, curators and M&E engineers to improve environmental conditions for NMGM's collections. In addition to the maintenance of existing systems, you will set up new systems for monitoring temperature, relative humidity, light and UV levels. You will provide training for NMGM staff in environmental monitoring and in pest monitoring and control. You will also be responsible for co-ordinating an integrated pest management program throughout NMGM's collections. There will be opportunities for research into aspects of preventive conservation, using the laboratory's analytical facilities. To be successful you will have either a nationally recognised conservation qualification, or a degree in a relevant scientific subject. Experience in environmental monitoring and control for museum collections is desirable. Computer literacy is essential, and knowledge of the software for environmental monitoring systems used in museums would be an advantage. You must be able to work independently, and should have excellent communication skills and the ability to organise.
