National Museums and Galleries on Merseyside (NMGM)
<URL:http://www.nmgm.org.uk> is a unique organisation with
responsibilities both as a major national museum group, and as a
regional and local museum service for people in Liverpool and the
North West.

This established post will be based in the Conservation Science and
Research Laboratory at the Conservation Centre, and will involve
regular visits to all the display and storage venues in NMGM.

You will be responsible for monitoring the environment at all NMGM's
sites, and will liaise with conservators, curators and M&E engineers
to improve environmental conditions for NMGM's collections. In
addition to the maintenance of existing systems, you will set up new
systems for monitoring temperature, relative humidity, light and UV
levels. You will provide training for NMGM staff in environmental
monitoring and in pest monitoring and control. You will also be
responsible for co-ordinating an integrated pest management program
throughout NMGM's collections. There will be opportunities for
research into aspects of preventive conservation, using the
laboratory's analytical facilities.

To be successful you will have either a nationally recognised
conservation qualification, or a degree in a relevant scientific
subject. Experience in environmental monitoring and control for
museum collections is desirable. Computer literacy is essential, and
knowledge of the software for environmental monitoring systems used
in museums would be an advantage. You must be able to work
independently, and should have excellent communication skills and
the ability to organise.
