The Archives and Local History Round Table, Texas Library
Association, is hosting a one-day disaster planning preconference on
April 1, 2003, in Houston, Texas. The workshop is an intensive,
hands-on training in writing a disaster plan Participants will
explore fundamental issues in disaster planning and begin writing
their own plan using a template provided by Amigos Library Services.
The morning sessions will be classroom style and will cover issues
that are critical to a successful plan but may be overlooked. The
afternoon sessions include tours of two sites damaged by the
flooding of Tropical Storm Allison. Thomas F. R. Clareson, manager,
Digital and Preservation Cooperative, OCLC, Inc., will serve as
moderator for the program.

Tour 1: University of Houston Law Library. Jon Schultz, Librarian
and Professor of Law, UH, will guide participants through the law
library's recovery efforts.

Tour 2: Houston Public Library. Syma Zerkow, COMS Coordinator,
Houston Public Library.

Return to Convention Center by 5:30.

Cost: $85.00 for TLA members, $100 for non-members. The
preconference will be at the George R. Brown Convention Center.
Transportation to and from the tour sites is provided.
