Royal Museum Lecture Theatre
Edinburgh, Scotland
November 13-14, 2003

Call for papers:
Deadline for abstracts: April 30, 2003
Deadline for text for final papers: June 30, 2003

The aim of the conference is to explore the key role played by
environmental monitoring in developing sustainable conservation of
historic buildings, structures, contents, finishes and fixtures. The
conference will address the issues of environmental monitoring in
libraries, archives, museums and galleries, historic houses,
castles, abbeys and medieval wall paintings.

A major objective is to examine the relationship between organisms,
materials, environments and our cultural heritage. Particular
emphasis will be laid on understanding environmental monitoring and
control and deterioration to our Museums, Galleries, Archives,
Libraries and Historic Monuments.

The conference will assist in the development of multidisciplinary
sustainable solutions to deal with the problems caused by
deterioration in the built environment and on historical artefacts.

The conference will focus on developing a better knowledge base for
practitioners in conservation. This will be achieved by bringing
together experts in the conservation of a range of different types
of heritage artefact and buildings all of which are susceptible to
the threats posed by biological, chemical and environmental
pollution.
