The Preservation Directorate of the Library of Congress announces the following 3 updates regarding its series of lectures on Topics in Preservation Science: 1. Richard Rhorer (of National Institute of Standards and Technology) will speak on February 14, 2003 on The Charters of Freedom Encasement, 9:45-10:30 AM in Dining Room A on 6th floor of the Madison Building, Library of Congress 2. Cheryl Porter (Chemist, Director of the Montefiascone Library Conservation Project, Italy) will give a course on history and use of pigments and ink, with the following lectures open to the public: Inks: Sepia, Iron Gall and Carbon: Making the Medieval Book Pickford Theater February 18 2003 9-12 The Medieval "Palette": Media Pickford Theater February 18, 2003: 1-4 The Medieval Blues: The Coloring of Tawed Skins West Dining Room February 19, 2003 1-4 Organic Colors: The Making and Use of "Lake" Colors Pickford Theater February 20, 2003 1-4 Pigments and Conservation Issues: Identification and Consolidation, , Pickford Theater February 21, 2003: 1-4 3. Postponed: The February 26, 2003 presentation by Chandru Shahani (Chief, Research and Testing Division, Preservation Directorate, Library of Congress), on Understanding How Paper Ages and How We Can Save It, has been postponed until further notice.
