Subject: NEH Preservation Assistance Grants
New guidelines for the National Endowment for the Humanities Preservation Assistance Grants are now available. May 15, 2003 is the receipt deadline for projects that would begin no earlier than January 2004. Preservation Assistance Grants of up to $5000 help small and mid-size institutions--libraries, museums, and historical societies, town and county records offices, archival repositories, community colleges, and underserved departments and units within colleges and universities and other larger institutions--improve their ability to preserve and care for their humanities collections. Institutions may request support for the following activities: 1) General preservation assessments that will help an institution identify its overall preservation needs and develop a long-range, prioritized preservation plan; 2) Consultations with preservation professionals to address a specific preservation issue, need, or problem; 3) Attendance at preservation workshops; and 4) Purchase of lstorage furniture, preservation supplies, and environmental monitoring equipment.
