The Indiana State Museum <URL:http://www.indianamuseum.org> is
seeking candidates for the position of Conservator.  This is a full
time state government position.  Duties include: care and
conservation of the varied collections held in the State Museum and
the state's Historic Sites; treatment ranging from basic
stabilization to full physical and chemical procedures;
collaboration with chief conservator, curators, collection managers,
registrar and exhibit staff to develop appropriate housings and
exhibit mounts; formulation of procedures, standards and policies;
supervision of a conservation technician and other collection staff
and volunteers as needed.  Other responsibilities may include:
outreach to other museums, state institutions and the public;
conducting workshops and on-site surveys and serving on project
teams.  This position reports to the Chief Conservator.  Successful
candidates must possess excellent written and verbal communications;
strong organizational and interpersonal skills; demonstrated ability
to work independently and productively in a team environment

Candidates should have a graduate degree in conservation or have
equivalent combination of training and experience indicating an
in-depth knowledge of conservation theory and practice.  While the
interest of the Museum is to fill this position with experience in
textile conservation because of it's large fine arts, ethnographic
and natural history collections other disciplines or any combination
