The following courses are offered at Sydonie Estate House (a circa
1900 estate house which has been lovingly restored), located on Lake
Minore in Zellwood, Florida, 25 miles north of downtown Orlando. The
courses are organised by International Academic Projects Ltd and The
South Florida Conservation Center:

Conservation of Glass
March 31-April 4, 2003
Location: Sydonie Estate House,Zellwood, Florida
Tutor: Stephen Koob and John Maseman

    This practical course covers the the principles and practice and
    practice of historical and archaeological glass cleaning, care,
    conservation and restoration. Discussions centre on aspects of
    deterioration, restoration methods and proper conditions for
    storage and display. Practical sessions include the use and
    choice of techniques and particular materials. The course is
    aimed at practising glass and other conservators and requires
    background knowledge in conservation. Participants may be able
    to stay as house guests.

Practical Insect Pest Management (Florida)
April 28-30, 2003
Location: Sydonie Estate House,Zellwood, Florida
Tutor: David Pinniger (Consultant Entomologists)

    This course comprises teaching, discussions and practical
    sessions. It aims to provide participants with the basic
    knowledge to develop and implement an integrated pest management
    programme for their collections. Discussions focus on insects as
    pests and the damage they cause; detection, trapping and
    monitoring; museum environments; options for prevention and
    control; health and safety of staff and collections; cost
    effective targeting treatments. Practical sessions consider
    insect identification and museum surveys. Each participant is
    given handout material. and a copy of the book Integrated Pest
    Management. The course is aimed at everybody working with, or
    responsible for, collections.
