Archaeological conservation internship Summer 2003 Smithsonian Center for Materials Research and Education (SCMRE) The Smithsonian Center for Materials Research and Education (SCMRE) and the Office of Fellowships announce several internship opportunities in archaeological conservation with projects in Guatemala. The internships are a component of SCMRE's Archaeological Conservation Program, which seeks to foster the integration of conservation and archaeological research through collaborative materials-based studies, collections care training, and fieldwork participation. The internship duration is approximately 8 weeks (June - August 2003). Funding is available to cover air fare from the continental US, and the project(s) will cover on-site lodging and most on-site meal costs. A small living allowance is provided by SCMRE, which can be used to supplement any other funds available to the applicant. Eligibility: Applicants currently enrolled in or recently graduated from recognized conservation training programs are preferred. Applicants must have an objects concentration, with a special interest in archaeological materials, and English language skills. Some knowledge of Spanish is helpful but not required.
