Subject: Certification
Certification Motion Passes The development of a certification program has been approved by the AIC membership with 62% voting in favor. The official count was 739 Yes and 450 No. In developing a certification program plan, the voices of all members are welcomed and indeed depended upon. The months ahead will afford many opportunities to carefully construct a certification program that will hold benefits for all members of the AIC and for the profession as a whole. The development process itself, including the dialogues and debates, drafting and redrafting, will be extremely valuable to all of us and no doubt raise many new avenues for improving the AIC. Opportunities for discussions will include membership representation at the Internal Advisory Group Meetings, the Annual Meeting Issues Sessions, the newsletter and on the various list serves. Suggestions and comments are always welcome by contacting a member of the Task Force on Certification, chairs of Specialty Groups and Committees and by contacting the board. I would like to thank all those who have contributed to this effort, those who took the time to comment and question and especially the 1,189 members who cast their vote. This is, I believe, the largest response to an all member vote ever received in the organization. The response points to the interest in this topic and speaks highly of the membership's commitment to the organization and to the profession. This is an exciting initiative we are about to embark on...and an even more exciting and productive set of dialogues awaits us all.
