California State University at Long Beach is offering its innovative
Professional Designation Certificate program on line for the first
time.

Costume and Textiles Collections Management is a rigorous five
module course designed to train individuals as skilled professionals
qualified to work with museums, studio archives (i.e. film
studios--this is LA after all), private and corporate collections.
The program includes 28 weeks of on-line classwork and culminates in
mentor-sponsored fieldwork, giving the students an opportunity for
hands-on experience working side by side with established
professionals.

The Costume and Textiles Collections Management program has been
developed by an advisory board made up of professionals from
museums, historic sites, academia and studio archives. It covers
the skills and key elements that are the foundation of collections
management: materials science, agents of deterioration, care and
storage and the legal and ethical issues that concern collections
care.

Module I begins January 29, 2003. For more information contact
