Positions at Historic Royal Palaces

Textile Conservators
Historic Royal Palaces, UK

Historic Royal Palaces is the organisation responsible for
conserving, maintaining and presenting some of the world's most
famous heritage sites--including Hampton Court Palace, The Tower of
London, Kew Palace, Kensington Palace State Apartments and the
Banqueting House, Whitehall. In the Textile Conservation Studio, we
preserve some of the nation's most vulnerable works of art--many of
which have been on open display in the Palaces for centuries. Now we
need more professionals to help us meet this significant
conservation challenge. We have a number of opportunities to work on
the conservation of large-scale tapestries, textile furnishings and
costumes. All of these positions call for individuals with proven
experience and a strong theoretical knowledge of conservation
science, principles and ethics. We look to everyone in the team to
play an active part in building the Studio's reputation as a world
class textile conservation service. Good problem solving and
communication skills are essential, together with a well organised
and self-motivated approach. A formal qualification in textile
conservation would be ideal, and you should be either accredited or
willing to work towards accreditation.
