Textile Conservators Historic Royal Palaces, UK Historic Royal Palaces is the organisation responsible for conserving, maintaining and presenting some of the world's most famous heritage sites--including Hampton Court Palace, The Tower of London, Kew Palace, Kensington Palace State Apartments and the Banqueting House, Whitehall. In the Textile Conservation Studio, we preserve some of the nation's most vulnerable works of art--many of which have been on open display in the Palaces for centuries. Now we need more professionals to help us meet this significant conservation challenge. We have a number of opportunities to work on the conservation of large-scale tapestries, textile furnishings and costumes. All of these positions call for individuals with proven experience and a strong theoretical knowledge of conservation science, principles and ethics. We look to everyone in the team to play an active part in building the Studio's reputation as a world class textile conservation service. Good problem solving and communication skills are essential, together with a well organised and self-motivated approach. A formal qualification in textile conservation would be ideal, and you should be either accredited or willing to work towards accreditation.
