Motion picture film

I'm a conservation/restoration student and presently I'm researching
treatments in cellulose acetate and nitrate moving image films. I
want to know what is possible to do in the case of very degraded
films, I mean with bubbles, shrinkages, and acid. Is recuperation
possible?

I would be grateful anyone could, in any way, advise me on this
matters or give some references on where to look
