The Conservation of Leather
January 5-8, 2003

Although leather is found in association with a wide range of
objects, this course will concentrate on where it is traditionally
used on period furniture, as interior decoration, upholstery and
wallcoverings as well as library materials. The course is designed
both to explore history, techniques and the use of leather and to
review current practice in its conservation. The format of the
course includes demonstrations, practical sessions, lectures and
case histories and it will be presented by two leading practitioners
both working and teaching in this specialist area.

Fully inclusive residential fee UKP420.
Non-residential fee UKP315.

Introduction to Conservation for Air and Land Transport
January 12-17, 2003

All too often the original surface and materials that make up air
and land transport machinery are being lost due to over-restoration
and inappropriate replacement. In addition, there is such disparity
in aims of treatment and the level of conservation/restoration of
machines that there is no common approach that can be used as a
basis for management, treatment methods, documentation or for the
consideration of ethics. Another concern is the lack of any
provision for conservation training. It is impossible for a
conservator to learn the required engineering skills in a short
timescale and so the staff of transport museums and collections tend
to be engineers first and become conservator-restorers second.
However there are relatively few opportunities for them to develop a
more ethical conservation approach.

Fully inclusive residential fee UKP675.
Non-residential fee UKP500.
