Position with the Natural Heritage Trust Natural Heritage Trust,
Bureau of Historic Sites, Peebles Island Resource Center, Waterford,
New York

The Peebles Island Resource Center seeks candidates for the position
of Textile Conservation Technician / Intern. Working under the
direct supervision of the Peebles Island Resource Center Textile
Conservator, the technician / intern will assist in the
documentation and treatment of textiles, including conservation of
flags and upholstered furniture, from the New York State Historic
Sites and other state agencies. The technician / intern may also
assist staff in carrying out preventive conservation measures. All
work will be conducted in accordance with the American Institute for
Conservation's Code of Ethics and Guidelines for Practice.

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree, sewing skills, knowledge
of textile structures, good sense of organization, word-processing
experience, ability to communicate well in English.  Successful
experience in a textile conservation laboratory is desirable, but
not required. Ideally, the successful candidate will be completing
course requirements for admission to a graduate program in
conservation

Term: Appointment will be for one year, beginning November, 2002.

Salary: $30,000 plus excellent state benefit package.
