Swiss Institute for Art Research

The position will involve the management and further development of
the chemical laboratory of the art technology department. The main
field of activity of the laboratory is the analysis of materials
from objects of art (pigments and binding media) within the
framework of art technological research projects. These projects are
elaborated and carried out in collaboration with the Head of the
department and a team of five conservators and a chemist. The
remaining capacity of the laboratory is used for analyses for the
department's own conservation studio (painting and sculpture) as
well as for external services. The available methods of analysis
comprise microscopy, FT-IR, HPLC and EDXRF.

The successful candidate will hold a recognized university degree in
chemistry and will have profound experience in the analysis of
objects of art. The capability to carry out independent scientific
research will be demonstrated by the candidate's scientific
publications. Knowledge of foreign languages and the capability of
interdisciplinary collaboration are a must.
