Artefacts within Architecture - Changing Attitudes to Collections
    and Display
November 9, 2002

The Scottish Society for Conservation and Restoration is celebrating
its 25th anniversary with a day of lectures. The speakers are top
professionals from national institutions and heritage organisations.
The theme of the lectures aims to reflect how the context,
requirements and expectations of artefacts within an architectural
setting have changed and developed in the last quarter century.

    National Museums of Scotland"

   "Joining up the thinking--Conservation over 25 years"
    James Simpson
    Conservation Architect, Simpson and Brown Architects

   "A crisis of identity? The changing role of science in the
    conservation of cultural heritage"
    Professor Norman Tenant
    Professor of Chemistry of Conservation and Restoration, The
    University of Amsterdam

   "Monuments as museums--meaningful or misguided? The display of
    archaeological  and historical artefacts in context"
    Richard Welander
    Collections Manager, Historic Scotland

    James Boyle, Chairman of the Scottish Arts Council will lead the
    debate at the end of the day.
