Preservation copying policy

From: Lydia Preiss <lpreiss>

For those of you interested in preservation copying policy, the
National Library of Australia NLA has reviewed and revised its
preservation microfilming policy to include digital copying.

The National Library of Australia Policy on Preservation Copying of
Collection Materials is available at:
<URL:http://www.nla.gov.au/policy/micro.html>

The document is a complete review and rethinking of NLA policy on
copying for preservation purposes. The development of the NLA's
digitisation programs led us to consider and assess digitisation
alongside microfilming as a preservation copying option.

The Preservation Copying Policy should be read with reference to The
NLA's Digitisation Policy,
<URL:http://www.nla.gov.au/policy/digitisation.html> and NLA
Digitisation Standards and Guidelines in Use,
<URL:http://www.nla.gov.au/digital/standards.html> These
principles have enabled the preservation copying program to include
digital format where appropriate. This is possible because the NLA
has made an informed commitment to producing digital copies that can
be preserved, and has invested in preserving both the data integrity
and means of accessing them.
