The Library of JTS is seeking an experienced conservator to work for
two years to systematically treat items in serious state of
deterioration from the library's manuscript and illuminated
documents collection.  The successful candidate will perform
treatments focusing on codices, with the goal of providing optimum
treatment for the most challenging and valuable materials.  Duties
include managing projects, setting priorities, implementing work
flow, quality and productivity.  Work with librarians and
conservators to implement comprehensive program for the care of the
special collections.  Identify and implement new initiatives
involving technologies in conservation.  Graduate degree or
post-graduate studies in conservation, formal apprenticeship or
equivalent preparation.  Four to six years conservation experience,
with demonstrated experience in performing complex treatment of rare
materials with an emphasis on codices.  In-depth knowledge of
papermaking, parchment and codicology.  Working knowledge of
material sciences.  Excellent organizational and team-work skills;
ability to initiate and adapt to change and to work collaboratively.
Excellent oral and written communication skills, including
demonstrated ability to document treatments, write specifications,
and prepare reports.  A reading knowledge of Hebrew and familiarity
in Jewish Studies is desired.  Competitive salary commensurate with
