Sara Roby Objects Conservation Fellowship
The Smithsonian American Art Museum

The Smithsonian American Art Museum is currently accepting
applications for the Sara Roby Foundation Fellowship to be awarded
in December 2002 and begin in late spring 2003. The Fellowship will
provide excellent hands-on treatment experience through preparation
of a large number of objects for the Museum's Luce Foundation Center
for American Art, a visible storage facility to open in 2006. The
collection comprises the gamut of American sculpture, from folk art,
19th and 20th century bronze and marble sculpture, to contemporary
objects, and modern craft objects. The $20,000 stipend offers
opportunities for 2 six-month fellowships or a one-year fellowship.

Eligibility: Recent graduates of conservation programs and current
conservation students as well as motivated pre-program applicants
are encouraged to apply. Candidates must have excellent hand skills
and substantial experience working with art. Previous experience in
conservation is desirable. Fluency in English and good writing
skills are essential.

Application Procedure: Applications and supporting documents should
be received by October 25, 2002. Candidates should submit a
