Conservation Technician
New York University Libraries

Key Responsibilities: Collection and Research Services/Preservation.
Perform a variety of conservation treatments to cloth, paper,
leather bindings. Identify and document repair needs. Determine
conservation techniques and assist with determining work priorities.
Maintain conservation treatment log. Compile data and prepare
statistical reports. Monitor environmental control equipment. Assist
with conservation activities, within guidelines. Assist with special
projects. Plan, organize and set up conservation exhibits. Complete
other related duties. Report to the Conservation Librarian.

Qualifications: 1 year book conservation experience, including
knowledge of current book and paper conservation techniques and
understanding of basic conservation principles. Excellent
communication and decision-making skills. Proficiency using
conservation equipment and tools. A portfolio of completed treatment
work is required at time of interview. Ability to work
independently.

The position is classified code 104, grade 42.  The position is a
bargaining unit position.
