Senior Conservator
The Museum of New Mexico

The incumbent reports to the Director of Conservation and is
responsible for coordinating and supervising activities in the
conservation laboratory.  The senior conservator will work with the
four museums and six state monuments that comprise the Museum of New
Mexico.  Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to the
following:

    *   Steward and support growth and improvements in full-time
        staff, interns and temporary staff members through guidance
        and supervision, using the laboratory's Standard Operating
        Procedures, Intern guidelines and the AIC Code of Ethics and
        Standards of Practice

    *   Direct laboratory operations and set standards that result
        in a safe, modern, well-equipped and well-maintained
        workplace for conservation

    *   Perform corrective, preventive and analytical conservation
        measures on a wide range of cultural materials,
        archaeological objects and decorative arts.

The successful candidate will hold:

    *   A Master's Degree with specialization in conservation OR a
        certificate from a recognized conservation program OR
        equivalent training and experience.

    *   A minimum of 5 years of conservation experience after
        training, 3 of those years in a museum conservation setting.

Other predictive factors of job success are experience in the
conservation of cultural materials and experience with teaching,
research and grant writing.  Strong control of IS technology.

    *   Salary range is $26,500 - $47,100.
