Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art

The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art seeks applicants for an Assistant
Conservator/Fellow of Objects in our Conservation Department.  This
appointment will begin late fall 2002 and continue for 8 months. The
conservator will be working on an exciting project, generously
funded by the Getty Grant Program, as part of a team surveying a
12th century Yuan Dynasty wall painting measuring 50 x 20 feet.  The
detailed examination survey will also include a Chinese gilt carved
wood ceiling, (c.1444), and a set of lacquer and wood palace gates
(Beijing, 17th century) measuring 10 x 20 feet high.  These works of
art are located in an architectural setting in the Chinese Temple
Gallery of The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art.  This position offers a
rare opportunity for close study of these rare masterpieces at a
museum that is famed for its Chinese collection.  Qualified
applicants will possess a degree in conservation or equivalent
experience.  Familiarity with Photoshop is a plus.  Experience with
wall paintings, polychromed wood and lacquer is desired.  We offer a
