The Conservation Center of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art is
seeking a qualified full-time paper conservator.  The primary
responsibility of the incumbent is to coordinate and supervise all
activities of the paper conservation laboratory.  This section of
the Conservation Center is responsible for the care, preservation,
examination and treatment of the extensive and varied collections of
works of art on paper in the museum's permanent collection,
including the five "Centers" of the Museum, namely American, Latin
American, European, Modern and Contemporary and Asian art.

In addition, duties include the active involvement in acquisitions,
loans, research, special exhibitions, traveling exhibitions,
environmental standards, storage and transit conditions as well as
supervision and training of paper conservation fellows and/or
interns.

The incumbent, with the title of senior conservator (or conservator,
depending on qualifications), will report to the Head of
Conservation and will provide assistance on budgets, fundraising and
other administrative matters.

Minimum requirements:  Bachelor's degree and graduation from a
recognized conservation training program or equivalent education and
professional experience.  Conservation experience should include at
least five years in a supervisory or independent conservation
position (eight years for senior conservator), preferably in an art
museum conservation laboratory.  Must possess good written and
verbal communication skills, have interest in research and a
demonstrated familiarity with workplace chemical hygiene practices.
