The Getty Conservation Institute

The Getty Conservation Institute (GCI), located at the Getty Center
in Los Angeles, California, is one of the operating programs of the
J. Paul Getty Trust, and serves the international field of
conservation of physical cultural heritage by working strategically
to advance research and practice in the profession. Staff of the GCI
represent a wide range of cultural and professional backgrounds that
are reflective of the highly inter-disciplinary and collaborative
nature of the Institute's work. Activities include scientific
research, education and training, dissemination of information, and
international collaboration in carefully selected model field
projects, all directed towards addressing unsolved problems in the
conservation field.

The GCI is currently seeking a Manager of Research Services to
undertake the development of a robust research support program that
strategically advances the GCI as one of the leading international
providers of conservation information and services and meets the
in-depth research needs of GCI staff. The Manager of Research
Services will have overall responsibility for the budget, operations
and staff of the Information Center.  The Information Center staff,
a small group of professional and support staff, are responsible for
providing high-level research services including reference,
research, and bibliographic management support, Interlibrary loan
and Document Delivery, etc.

The Manager of Research Services will work collaboratively with GCI
staff and other conservation professionals to understand the
multi-disciplinary information and research needs represented in
their work, and then build a suite of high quality, sustainable
information services and resources to most effectively meet, exceed,
and over time, anticipate, those needs.  He/She will have overall
responsibility for evaluating the strengths of the Getty's
conservation and scientific holdings and for establishing collection
development activities within the context of meeting the ongoing
research needs of the staff while continuing to build one of the
world's leading conservation libraries.  Additionally, the Manger of
Research Services will represent the research support activities of
the GCI to other Getty Programs, and in national and international
collaborative efforts related to information management and
services, as required.

The successful candidate will have an M.L.S., or equivalent degree,
and a minimum of five years of experience working successfully in a
serious research environment.  Demonstrated successful involvement
in, or management of, the information component of complex
interdisciplinary research projects that push the boundaries of
current knowledge and practice is essential for success in this
position.  Energy, enthusiasm, an ability to evaluate, to
effectively respond to, and to anticipate diverse information needs
are required.

Starting salary range:  approximately $55,000 - 65,000, dependent on
qualifications.
