Position at Historic Royal Palaces

Textile Conservators
Textile Conservation Studio
Historic Royal Palaces

Historic Royal Palaces is the organisation responsible for
conserving, maintaining and presenting some of the world's most
famous heritage sites--including Hampton Court Palace, The Tower of
London, Kew Palace, Kensington Palace State Apartments and the
Banqueting House, Whitehall.

The Textile Conservation Studio conserves some of the nation's most
vulnerable works of art--many of which have been on open display in
the Palaces for centuries. We are now recruiting more professional
conservators to help meet the significant conservation challenge of
preserving the collection in its original setting for the
foreseeable future.

We have opportunities to work on the conservation of large-scale
tapestries, textile furnishings and costumes. The positions call
for individuals with proven conservation experience and a strong
understanding of conservation science, theory, principles and ethics
who are able to work as part of an energetic professional team on
practical conservation projects and exhibitions governed by very
tight deadlines.

While the more senior roles demand the ability to manage major
projects and develop staff, we look to everyone in the team to play
an active part in building the Studio's reputation as a world class
textile conservation service.

Good problem solving and communication skills are essential,
together with a well-organised and self-motivated approach. A
formal qualification in textile conservation would be ideal, and you
should either be accredited or actively working towards professional
accreditation.

Closing date July 12, 2002
