The National Gallery of Art is seeking two technicians, one for the
Object Conservation Department and one for the Painting Conservation
Department for a full-time, permanent, federal position.
Responsibilities may include the operation of x-radiograph and
infrared reflectography equipment, investigation of computerized
mosaicing and digitization of images, technical drawing, monitoring
and ordering supplies, organization, maintenance, and updating of
technical files and art historical research related to works of art
being treated by staff conservators. The work involves some filing,
typing, and computer database manipulation.

Candidates must have a bachelor's degree with a background in art
history, studio art and/or science (especially chemistry or
physics), be familiar with desktop computers and possess good
analytical and research abilities. The technicians will work
independently in support of conservators.

Compensation is based on the background and experience level of the
candidates. The salary will be in the range of GS-5 to GS-7 ($25,347
or $31,397) depending upon experience.
